From process use to space chilling, they have a variety of different applications. A water chiller makes use of water as a condensing source. The only difference between a water chiller and an air chiller is that a water chiller sends water to a cooling tower to cool the water down in the chiller.
One of the most common water and air chillers is an evaporative condensed chiller. These chillers come in a variety of sizes ranging from 20 tons to 200 tons. However, one must choose a chiller that fits their needs best. Constant recalculation of water maximizes the heat rejection in an evaporative chiller. It also results in wetting of the condenser tubes. Meanwhile, the air is pulled over the tubes by fans, resulting in water evaporation and rejection of heat to the atmosphere.

One of the critical features of a centrifugal chiller is providing good cooling capacity with a compact design. These chillers operate through an impeller which is more of a water pump. These chillers are high capacity and have the ability to handle more than 150 tons.
Absorption chillers use heat as a source instead of using a mechanical compressor. Such chillers use two kinds of liquids, one to absorb and the other one to cool. The absorption liquid is ammonia or, in some cases, lithium bromide, while the cooling liquid is water.
